A camper built around bikes and time on the road: a raised bed over a bike garage, a galley with a two-burner cooktop and sink, swivel front seats, heat, and an outdoor shower at the rear doors.

A flexible, modular interior: plywood walls and ceiling with L-track mounting rails, a compact galley, an open cargo floor, and a power system with an inverter, battery monitoring, and 120V and 12V outlets.

Before David Lieb Customs, I spent 7 years as a professional mountain bike rider, traveling from event to event and living out of the vans I built along the way.
Years of actually using those vans taught me firsthand what works, what doesn’t, and which details matter once you’re hundreds of miles from home.
I learned plenty of those lessons the hard way. Now I use that experience to help customers avoid the same learning curve, saving time, money, and frustration while creating vans that are designed around how they’re actually going to be used.
From work van storage and auxiliary power to complete camper builds, every DLC project starts with the same question:
What do you actually need this van to do?
Before starting David Lieb Customs, I spent 7 years as a professional mountain bike rider. During that time, vans were much more than something I enjoyed building. They were a major part of how I lived and worked.
I used my vans to travel from event to event while competing professionally, carrying bikes, tools, gear, and everything I needed to live on the road while doing my job.
Over the years I spent a significant amount of time actually living in and using the vans I built, and that gave me a perspective that is difficult to get from simply building them in a shop.
Living with these builds every day taught me firsthand what works, what doesn’t, what sounds like a good idea on paper but becomes frustrating in real life, and which features are actually worth spending money on.
I learned plenty of those lessons the hard way. Storage that looked good but wasn’t practical. Layout decisions that seemed minor until you were living in the van every day. Electrical systems, heating, insulation, cabinetry, equipment placement, accessibility, durability, and all of the small details that become very important after weeks or months on the road.
That experience eventually turned into 7 years of hands-on experience building and working with vans, and it is a major part of the philosophy behind DLC.
My goal is to help customers skip as much of that learning curve as possible. Whether I’m installing a diesel heater, building an auxiliary power system, designing cabinetry for a contractor, or completing an entire camper conversion, I want to use what I’ve learned to help you avoid unnecessary mistakes, wasted time, and money spent doing something twice.
For camper customers, that means designing around how you’re actually going to live, travel, carry gear, and use the van. For work van customers, the same philosophy applies: understand how you actually work out of the vehicle and build the storage, power, heating, and organization around that, rather than forcing you into a generic layout.
